Fahrzeugbeschreibung
Volvo P1800 Jensen
The Volvo P1800 saw the light in 1957 with the X1 prototype, and was, after the P1900, the second model with which Volvo tried to penetrate the sports car market. For the final model, designed by 'Pelle Petterson' who at the time worked for the Italian bodybuilder 'Frua', we had to wait until the world premiere in 1960 at the Brussels Motor Show. The 2+2 coupé was equipped with a front-mounted 1800 cc four-cylinder with double carburetor, good for 100 HP, 4-speed gearbox with rear-wheel drive. The car was already very progressive at the time, partly due to the standard disc brakes on the front wheels. From 1961 the P1800 was assembled in Great Britain by Jensen, but from 1963 production would move to Sweden. Only about 6000 units were assembled by Jensen, characterized by the 'cow horn' bumpers at the front! From then on, the name would be followed by an 'S' for 'Svenska' while the 'P' would be dropped. The P1800 gained its greatest fame through the popular TV series 'The Saint' in which the car was driven by actor Roger Moore.
'Collection by Vermant' is delighted to be able to offer you this rare and unique P1800 Jensen. This Jensen has chassis number 550 and is therefore one of the first built and most sought-after Volvo P1800 models.
The car was sold in 1961 in America, later came to Belgium via the Netherlands and received a full "nut & bolt" restoration. During this thorough reconstruction, it was considered to keep all parts in their original design AND color. For example, great importance has been attached to the use of correct materials and to also preserve all details as they originally came from the factory. In the trunk, the tools are attached to the side panels in the original way. This is very exceptional and rare to find on the cars. In the engine compartment this Jensen is still equipped with the typical point radiator and the small filters on the SU carburetors. On the outside we find the original red color. The rims are also finished in the correct shade of dark gray and then equipped with the very rare and original chrome wheel covers.
In short, this rare P1800 Jensen, with Belgian registration, is in absolute top condition and is a unique opportunity to buy a P1800 that beats from head to toe down to the smallest details.
