The story of this MG TA ‘Q-Type’ is as compelling as the car itself, a journey that spans decades with several passionate owners over the years. Its tale begins in the 1960s under the stewardship of Paddy Wilmer, a skilled driver who successfully campaigned the car in the fiercely competitive UK “T-Type” series. Over many years, the MG demonstrated its remarkable abilities on the track, earning a reputation as a formidable and reliable competitor.
In 2003, the MG TA ‘Q-Type’ entered a new chapter with Frank Albers, a passionate racer who upheld its competitive spirit. After treasuring the car and its legacy, Albers made the heartfelt decision to pass it on to Danish racing enthusiast Bjarne Berner, confident it belonged with someone who could continue its storied journey. Berner embraced the MG’s reputation as a racing icon, ensuring it remained untarnished both on and off the track.
By 2009, the car’s journey reached a significant milestone when it was entrusted to renowned MG expert Steve Baker. Baker embarked on a purposefully built tribute, equipping the car with a period-correct MG racing body that paid homage to its 1930s heritage. Key mechanical components, including the engine, gearbox, axles, and supercharger, were already in excellent working order, requiring no further work and allowing them to be carefully preserved in their original condition. To this day, the stunning craftsmanship of the body remains a testament to his skill. The bodywork is immaculate, with the paintwork still in excellent condition and the panels perfectly aligned, straight, and flawless. The fit and finish are precise, adhering to the original MG-Q specifications. The result is a car that has preserved its beauty in a way that only an MG-Q can.
After its revival, the car became a prized possession of Jean-Marc Bussolini, a distinguished French collector of historic racing cars. Of course, the latest masterpiece by Steve Baker was a perfect addition to his remarkable collection, which could not be complete without such an iconic piece. Nestled within his esteemed Deauville collection.
Today, this beautiful MG ‘Q-Type’ has been registered in Belgium since 2017 and continues to honour its heritage by actively participating in prestigious rally events, including the renowned Knokke Zoute Rally. This is no garage queen; it’s a car built for driving, and it does so with exceptional flair. For modern driving comfort, it’s equipped with a synchronised Ford five-speed gearbox that shifts like butter, making every journey a smooth pleasure. However, the true highlight is the supercharged 1200cc engine. Not only does it deliver a thrilling, spine-tingling performance, but it also produces a magnificent sound that makes every drive an experience. The unmistakable roar of the supercharged engine, combined with its authentic patina, precise handling, direct steering, and highly responsive engine, elevates the driving experience to a whole new level. This makes it the perfect companion for historic rallies, winding mountain roads, or simply relishing the pure joy of open-air motoring.
A true testament to craftsmanship, passion, and history, this MG TA ‘Q-Type’ offers more than just transportation—it invites you to relive the golden age of motoring. Now available at Rock 'N Roll Classics.
